Two years ago we moved to this little 1941 stucco cottage that was home to many local squatters and drug dealers. It was the bane of the neighborhood, to say the least. Today it is the cutest cottage on the block and the neighbors enjoy looking upon it to see what new idea we will create in our yard.
My husband and I have turned it into a hobby house where we garden and repair things and feel much like we are in some sort of training camp for a bigger project down the road. We have fun and play with our projects since we always have the dream to move elsewhere in time. But we have also become very attached through our hard work and labors of love.
I have learned to be frugal and thrifty over the years even before marriage but since moving here I have learned so much! I have two big kitchen gardens that actually produce food and I have learned to preserve this food through canning and dehydrating.
We cook and bake from scratch, mend our holes in clothes and household items, make do with what we have and choose old fashioned methods and sustainable products all the time now.
I made a vlog long ago on How Cheap and Frugal Living Looks on YouTube but I just made an update the other day and I want to share it so you can see how well you can truly live on a small income for a family of four. It does require a very different lifestyle than most Americans are used to and it requires learning skills, crafts, and some hard work. This is not for everyone but I guarantee it will inspire many of you.
